Summary of Advanced Laparoscopy Courses Offered in Charlotte

I have received lots of requests about upcoming courses. So I wanted to post a general summary of what we offer. Anyone interested in a specific forum can contact me via the “Contact Us” page of my website at www.drkevinstepp.com.

All courses are offered in Charlotte, North Carolina and Carolinas Medical Center.

1. Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Mini-fellowship. Usually offered the first Monday and Tuesday of every month. Includes surgery observation for a variety of complex laparoscopy such as hysterectomy, single port surgery, endometriosis, and/or sacral colpopexy. The two-day mini-fellowship will focus on complex laparoscopic surgery beyond conventional laparoscopy. We integrate some or all of the following through case observation and a hands-on laboratory experience: microlaparoscopy, reduced port laparoscopy, single port laparoscopy, ureteral stents, advanced imaging, and/or robotics.

2. Intensive Single Incision Laparoscopy Mini-fellowship. The two day mini-fellowship is offered approximately 4 times per year and is for the practicing gynecologist with advanced laparoscopic skills and the surgical volume to master the techniques presented. The course consists of approximately 4 hrs of intensive didactics on Single Incision Laparoscopy in Gynecology. Tips and tricks for shortening the learning curve are presented. Instruction on advanced cases are also presented. Techniques presented are then practiced in a hands-on laboratory setting. Case observation and discussion is included.

3. Annual Course on Gynecologic Specialties and Advanced Laparoscopic Techniques. This is offered in May of each year. (17-19 May, 2012). This is a comprehensive course that provides an update on several key sub-specialties within gynecology as presented by national experts in their field. Although the course focuses on surgical advances and hysterectomy techniques, other issues are covered such as endometriosis, vulvar disorders, urinary incontinence, prolapase, chronic pain evaluation and management, etc. A large exhibit hall allows the vendors to showcase the latest technology available for advanced gynecology and laparoscopy. The course also includes an optional intensive hands-on lab experience to practice advanced techniques such as single incision laparoscopy, electrosurgery applications, morcellation, robotics, and others.

4. Independent Surgery Observation can also be arranged for individuals or practices interested in observing cases. (Limit 3 physicians at a time.)

Feel much more comfortable. Thanks!

I want to let you know that several of the surgeons trained this past week have done at least one SILS procedure already this week. They all commented on how comfortable they now feel utilizing not only the SILS instrumentation and port but also the application of energy in this type of approach. The confidence they gained from the lectures and labs has proved invaluable to their adoption of this new technique. They also said that this type of course would be highly beneficial to those Surgeons looking to adopt SILS and most importantly to the best possible clinical outcomes for the patients who receive this type of procedure. The continued offering of this type of training is essential to the medical community.

Thanks again for your time and effort in support of this program.

Loved the Course!

Dr. Stepp,
Thank you so much for an amazing course earlier this week. All 6 of my surgeons who attended said it was the best course, and are adopting SILS into their practice as we speak.

Since they enjoyed this course so much, they are also interested in attending your May 20-21st course.

Thanks again for all of your help,
James
